SUBMISSION DEADLINE: February 15, 2023 – 11:59 PM
AWARD: $1,200
The Hispanic Arts Society (HAS) is launching a project in February 2023 called Art with Heart. Our project aims to showcase several 8-foot-tall abstract sculptures painted by local artists. The sculptures (designed by HAS) are identical in form and create a heart shape when viewed from front and back angles. The objective of this sculpture project is to celebrate the resilience of community members during and after the pandemic. The sculptures will travel to various indoor and outdoor venues in Mohkinstsis/Calgary to promote local artists and increase people’s access to art in public spaces.
We are currently soliciting applications from artists in Alberta* who have experience with artistic design, vision, and execution of large-scale paintings. HAS will pay each selected artist $1,200 to create and paint an original surface design on one sculpture. In addition, up to $500 in material costs will be provided to each artist.
Visual artists and artist teams — both established and emerging — from ALL cultural backgrounds are welcome to apply for the Art with Heart project. Applicants will be informed about the results of their application by February 20th. Selected artists will have until March 15th to finish painting their sculptures.
A jury will review the applications. The jury is looking for applications that demonstrate a passion for the project and transmit themes of resilience, community, cultural heritage, and gratitude in relation to current events.
Canadian Heritage generously funds the Art with Heart project.
