The Calgary Underground Film Festival (CUFF) features five short films from Latin filmmakers.
The Calgary Underground Film Festival (CUFF) is marking its 20th anniversary this year, and to commemorate this significant milestone, they present their most extensive lineup to date. The festival will take place from April 20-30, 2023, at the Globe Cinema in Calgary and will showcase 42 feature films and 38 short films from various countries around the world.
Brenda Lieberman, CUFF’s Co-Founder, Festival Director & Lead Programmer, expressed her excitement about the festival, stating that “Our 20th Festival is going to be the most fun, vibrant event we’ve ever hosted, and we are counting on our filmmakers, alumni, festival friends, and as many audience members as possible to come to celebrate with us.”
The festival will kick off with the Canadian debut of ONYX THE FORTUITOUS AND THE TALISMAN OF SOULS, a horror-comedy selected for the Sundance 2023, followed by an after-party at The Derrick with a DJ set by CJSW Station Manager Adam Kamis. Other notable events include eight Alberta-made films, a live script reading of NOW, I AM A BEAR, the first-ever “Indie Game Bash,” and the return of CUFF favourites such as THE SATURDAY MORNING ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT-CEREAL CARTOON PARTY!
The Hispanic Arts Society is a Community Partner of the Calgary Underground Film Festival and invites the Hispanic community and culture lovers to watch the short films from Hispanic filmmakers. CUFF is featuring an anthology of 5 short films from some of the leading Latin filmmakers in the horror genre. This anthology spotlights Hispanic talent in front and behind the camera, showcasing unique and chilling stories from various perspectives. These short films are an exciting addition to the festival, offering audiences a glimpse into Hispanic filmmakers’ rich and diverse storytelling traditions.
